MORAIRA (10 mins drive)

What was once a small fishing village, Moraira has developed into a cosmopolitan, up-market town retaining a village atmosphere. Small colourful streets, pavement cafes, a pretty marina, a sandy bay and much more make this a great place to visit for all the family, both during the day and in the evening. There's an excellent selection of bars and restaurants, anything from Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and international cuisine. A traditional weekly market takes place every Friday; besides fresh produce, you can find a large selection of other merchandise such as plants, leather goods, and many other products from local craftsmen. Next to the market is a children's amusement park which is open at night. Moraira also offers 2 crazy golf courses, go carting and tennis.

Moraira's main beach, L'Ampolla, at the foot of the castle, is an ideal 'family' beach with lots of golden sand and excellent facilities while just 1.5 kms away is El Portet. Surrounded by steep hills, this sheltered bay with its gently sloping beach is perfect for safe swimming. From El Portet you can watch the sun set behind the Penon de Ifach - a large column of rock which rises from the sea, whilst enjoying a cool drink or even dinner from one of the beach side restaurants.

For those wishing to get a breathtaking view of the coastline, there's a path that takes you to the peak. Calpe is a great place for all the family and well worth a visit. There's a great promenade with an abundance of restaurants, snack bars, shops - something to keep the whole family happy. In the high season there are water activities, a safe area to swim, a lifegard and play equipment on the sand for the younger ones. The small village of Guadalest occupies one of the most stunning positions in Spain, with the whitewashed bell tower of Penon de la Alcala being one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the region. The pretty village is precariously perched on the top of a granite mountain, giving fantastic views across the valley carved out by the river below. The drive up the twisting road to Guadalest is almost as spectacular as the position of the village.
